Professional Development

Staying Ahead of the Game

In any profession, it is important to keep up with all the new technologies and resources becoming available. As a teacher it is especially important. Every teacher will agree that although technology is a challenge to keep up with, it is also a great tool for students to use. Therefore, teachers must be ready and looking for the next innovation that can be integrated into the classroom. By staying up to date, teachers will not only find ways to make their jobs easier, but also find ways to help students learn better. Teachers need to understand that students today do not learn the same way as in the past. Technology is the way that students communicate (cell phones, texting, instant messaging, email), have fun (gaming, social networking, TV), and gain information (internet). Why shouldn't technology be the means through which students learn in the classroom? Here is a video showing why it is important for teachers to have the most up-to-date knowledge of how to integrate technology into the classroom. Basically, students today NEED technology, and it is the teacher's responsibility to provide that for them.
