Hypermedia and its Uses

Hypermedia is actually something that many people have come in contact with. They may have used it in a presentation, used it when researching, come across it in an e-mail, or many other things. Hypermedia is the link of a hypertext that will take you to any graphic, audio, video, or text. It is very useful in that it can help teachers be very productive. It can take you to your link faster than if you were to just look it up on your own. If it is attached then it will go directly there and bypass any unnecessary steps that you may have taken, and eliminated you from having to even go back to the computer or get back on the internet. ypermedia is something that many people may not be familiar with, but this is mostly just the term that they are not familiar with.

Effectiveness of Hypermedia

You may be asking why is hypermedia just now becoming more effective and frequently used, Jon Udell, who is lead analyst for the InfoWorld Test Center and wrote for O’Reilly Net says in an article, there are two reasons for this: “1) The platform for hypermedia has matured, and 2) so has the publishing environment”. What does all of this mean? It means that technology to use hypermedia is finally catching up. For the first reason things such as computers and SmarBoards have come around and make hypermedia much easier to use for the everyday man. This means that teachers are more easily able to incorporate hypermedia into their lesson. The second reason is meaning that technology is making all the different kinds of files on computers able to read different types of files. You may have made your lesson in one type of software, but the file (graphic, for example) that you found may be in a one formatting, while the audio that you want to play is in another. Well, with new technology able to read other formats, hypermedia is now more accessible and easier to use.
