Projected and Non-projected Media
Both projected media and non-projected media are effective ways of teaching and are used in many different ways in the classroom. Media is especially important in the elementary setting where almost all the teaching is through some form of media whether it be through posters, cameras, or on television. In the middle school and high school setting media can be used to explain or show the topic being taught in a new way.
Projected media is becoming a very important tool in education today. Teachers use this kind of media by projecting enlarged still images on a display screen. This is an effective tool because a bright screen in a dark classroom gets students attention and keeps their attention. There are many different kinds of projected media and each is used in different ways to heighten learning. Some ways projected media can be achieved is by sending images from a computer to a document camera, digital projector, television monitor, or overhead projector. After sending the image, the image is then projected on a screen so it can be viewed by the students. The document camera is used to show images of small objects like antique roseville and coins or jewelry on a large screen. The digital projector is a computer that enlarges projects so that students could display them on a movie screen or another large screen. The television screen can be used to show television shows or movies to students. The overhead projecter is used in the classroom to enlarge transparencies for the students to read.
Non-projected media is still an important teaching tool in schools today because it allows students to learn in a more hands on and realistic way. Non-project media can include posters, drawings, cartoons, charts, pictures, and graphs. Posters in the classroom are usually used to get the students attention for a few seconds, just long enough to get a brief message to the students. Drawings are used in the classroom usually to represent the topic that the teacher is teaching. Cartoons are used in classrooms to get the students attention about a certain topic. Charts are used to show relationships between two or more objects or subjects. Pictures are used as aids in a lesson to enhance the students understanding.
